Sale of Window Media Assets Approved III: The DC Story

A statement this morning from Kevin Naff and Lynne Brown about their purchase of the Washington Blade assets in the Window Media firesale. Brown and Naff, along with Brian Pitts, are former top brass at the Washington Blade and now own, and run, the DC Agenda.

Brown Naff Pitts Omnimedia, Inc., doing business as DCAgenda, proudly announced today that it acquired the assets of the Washington Blade, the nation’s oldest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) newspaper including, but not limited to, any and all rights to exclusive use of the name The Washington Blade including copyright and trademark rights and the more than forty (40) year print and electronic archive.

“We are relieved that the Blade’s long history of quality, award-winning journalism will be preserved and accessible to the public,” said Lynne Brown of Brown Naff Pitts Omnimedia and publisher of DCAgenda.

The big asset, at least to historians and journalists, was the print and electronic archive. As the paper in the Washington D.C., many researchers, authors, and journalists relied on the Blade for coverage of significant political and news coverage.

The DC Agenda people have signaled all along that they didn’t intend to go back to using the Washington Blade name, so it will be interesting to see what transpires in the months ahead.
