CNN Responds to Concerns Over Ex-Gay Story

CNN’s Kara Phillips had a segment this morning offering the views of the head of the American Psychological Association’s gay and lesbian committee on ex-gays and gay conversion therapy. The spot was in response to an earlier segment that was criticized for having an ex-gay activist with no countering voices and no LGBT voices.

At the end of the segment, she acknowledged having ex-gay activist Richard Cohen on was a bad decision, but said that her goal was to begin a conversation.  She also struck back at her critics for writing “hateful messages” and leveling ugly attacks on her, through email.  She cited her work on other LGBT stories as evidence that she didn’t have an anti-gay agenda and said that the emails represented a serious lack of civility.
